O God, who for thy Church's sake didst suffer thy Bishop Saint Thomas gloriously to be slain by the swords of wicked men: grant, we beseech thee; that all they who call upon him for succour may be profited by the obtaining of all that they desire. Through.
COLLECT Of the Nativity
Almighty God, who hast given us thy only-begotten Son to take our nature upon
him, and as at this time to be born of a pure Virgin: grant that we, being
regenerate, and made thy children by adoption and grace, may daily be renewed by
thy Holy Spirit. Through the same our Lord Jesus Christ. Who liveth
and reigneth with thee and the same Spirit, ever one God, world without end.
THE EPISTLE
Hebrews 5.1-6
Brethren: Every high priest taken from among men is ordained for men in things pertaining to God, that he may offer both gifts and sacrifices for sins: Who can have compassion on the ignorant, and on them that are out of the way; for that he himself also is compassed with infirmity. And by reason hereof he ought, as for the people, so also for himself, to offer for sins. And no man taketh this honour unto himself, but he that is called of God, as was Aaron. So also Christ glorified not himself to be made an high priest; but he that said unto him, Thou art my Son, to day have I begotten thee. As he saith also in another place, Thou art a priest for ever after the order of Melchisedec.
GRADUAL AND ALLELUIA
Priest: (Ecclesiasticus 44) Behold a great
priest,
People: Who in his days pleased the Lord.
Priest: There was none like him
People: To keep the law of the Most High.
Priest: Alleluia.
People: Alleluia.
Priest: (St. John 10) I am the good shepherd: and
know my sheep,
People: And am known of mine.
All: Alleluia!
§ In Votive Masses, the Introit and after Septuagesima the Tract, are from Mass 2, Statuit, from Common; but in Eastertide the Introit and the Alleluia are from Mass 9, Protexisti.
THE GOSPEL
St. John 10.11-39
At that time; Jesus said unto the Pharisees: I am the good shepherd: the good shepherd giveth his life for the sheep. But he that is an hireling, and not the shepherd, whose own the sheep are not, seeth the wolf coming, and leaveth the sheep, and fleeth: and the wolf catcheth them, and scattereth the sheep. The hireling fleeth, because he is an hireling, and careth not for the sheep. I am the good shepherd, and know my sheep, and am known of mine. As the Father knoweth me, even so know I the Father: and I lay down my life for the sheep. And other sheep I have, which are not of this fold: them also I must bring, and they shall hear my voice; and there shall be one fold, and one shepherd.
The creed is said on account of the Octave.
OFFERTORY Pslam 21
Thou hast set a crown of pure gold upon his head, O Lord: he asked life of thee, and thou gavest him a long life.
SECRET
Sanctify, O Lord, we beseech thee, these our oblations: and at the intercession of thy blessed Saint Thomas look down in mercy upon us who here present them unto thee. Through.
SECRET Of the Nativity
We beseech thee, O Lord, that by this new Birth of thy only-begotten Son thou wouldest vouchsafe to sanctify these our oblations: and to cleanse us from the defilements of all our iniquities. Through the same.

Grant, O Lord, that this holy Communino may cleanse us from every guilty stain: and at the intercession of blessed Thomas thy Martyr and Bishop, may be our healing unto life eternal. Through.
POSTCOMMUNION Of the Nativity
Grant, we beseech thee, Almighty God: that like as thy Son, born this day the
Saviour of the world, hath been made the author of our heavenly birth; so he may

thee.
